Is the program confidential?
- The Physician Health Program (PHP) is a confidential service provided by the Ontario Medical Association however all information is kept separate from OMA records. There are nevertheless exemptions to the confidentiality rule, which are:
- Danger to harm self or others
- Risk of child abuse or neglect
- Driving while impaired
- Sexual abuse of patients much be reported to CPSO
- Court order
- PHP preserves the confidentiality of the participants and requires written consent for release of such information.
What is the relationship between the PHP and the Regulatory Colleges?
- PHP works independently from the regulatory colleges.
Is there a cost for the service?
- The Physician Health program is a free service for obtaining community resources. However once you are referred, you are entitled to pay any required amount for those services independently as PHP does not pay for any of these services.
Can I remain anonymous and still receive service?
- Yes, callers can remain anonymous. Callers do not have to provide a name or any other identifying information.
Who calls the PHP?
- Physicians/Residents/Medical Students
- Vets and Vet Students
- Pharmacists/ Pharmacy Students
- Family members of Physicians, Vets and Pharmacists
- Others that have a concern about one of the above mentioned Health Professional
