In 2002, the PHP entered into agreement with the Ontario College of Veterinarians (CVO) to provide advocacy and monitoring for licensed veterinarians with substance use disorders and/or experiencing psychiatric illness.
In conjunction with the CVO and the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA), the Professionals Health Program has promoted to the veterinary profession a service that provides confidential advice, support and referral to appropriate services. In addition, the OVMA has been proactive in promoting work life balance and healthy lifestyles for practicing professionals.
Through the PHP's services, professional case managers (accessible via a toll-free phone line) help veterinarians and concerned colleagues or family members to assess the problems, then provide referrals for counselling and clinical services.
The Professionals Health Program (PHP) provides veterinarians and concerned colleagues access to prompt, professional and completely confidential advice, support, and referral to appropriate services.
